Super Bien Opens at San Antonio International Airport

Chef Johnny Hernandez, known for La Gloria and The Fruteria, opened a new concept, Super Bien, inside San Antonio International Airport this week. A joint project with airport concession company HMSHost, Super Bien offers homestyle Tex-Mex fare inspired by Hernandez’s family roots. The eatery is located in Terminal A and will offer casual, quick-serve options for customers, including breakfast tacos, taco bowls and salads.

Bar 1 Watson to Open Downtown Next Month

A new rooftop bar and lounge will debut Dec. 9 at the AC Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk by Marriott. Known as 1 Watson, the bar will feature an array of craft cocktails plus Southwestern-inspired cuisine, such as smoked brisket tacos. The bar will offer views of the nearby San Fernando Cathedral and Main Plaza.

StreetFare SA to Close

StreetFare SA, the food truck park on Austin Highway, announced it will close this Sunday, Nov. 20. Its owner posted the news on Facebook, saying “I have greatly enjoyed serving you all the last four years, and I will truly miss all the food truck operators, employees and customers I have grown close to in this time.” He added that many of the regular food trucks will still operate at other locations around town and to follow them on social media for updates. Final service will take place from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, with $3 beer specials all day.

Rosario’s to Close as it Prepares to Move

Rosario’s announced this week that Nov. 27 will be the last day of service at its Southtown location, 910 S. Alamo St., before it moves to its new digs at 722 S. St. Mary’s St., known for years as the home of the iconic El Mirador. No date has been given for when it will reopen there, but when it does it will boast more dining space and bear a new logo designed by local artist Andy Benavides. “It’s a bittersweet moment walking away from our current Southtown location,” the restaurant said on social media. “However, we can’t wait to embark on a new journey at our forever home.”

El Mirasol Teases New Location in Boerne

The longtime San Antonio Mexican restaurant El Mirasol posted on social media that it plans to open a location in Boerne next summer. The new eatery will be located in the Napa Oaks center off I-10. Construction is expected to begin in January and cost around $1.5 million, according to MySA.com.

Hotel Emma Adds Sofia Tejeda and Amaris Diaz to Culinary Team

Hotel Emma announced this week that Sofia Tejeda will join its culinary staff as pastry chef and Amaris Diaz will become chef de cuisine. Tejeda brings experience from Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery in California plus roots in Mexico City and a degree from the Culinary Institute of America. Diaz previously served as chef de cuisine at Vespaio Restaurant in Austin and as sous chef at The Moon’s Daughters at The Thompson Hotel San Antonio.

The Westin Riverwalk Welcomes a New Chef

Ron Mays has been appointed as the new executive chef at the Westin Riverwalk San Antonio and its Zocca Cuisine D’Italia, Cafecito Café and pool bar, the hotel announced this week. Mays brings more than two decades of experience in luxury hospitality, including as executive chef at Caroline on 7th & Congress and the Luxury Otis Hotel & AC in Austin. Mays will also oversee the hotel’s in-room dining options and catering.
