Cantina Mexicana opens second CT location in South Norwalk

Brimming with Mexican flair, Cantina Mexicana has opened its second Connecticut location. 

The restaurant, which opened its new South Norwalk location at 77 N Main St. on Jan. 24, specializes in authentic Mexican food and aims to offer a “genuine multicultural culinary experience,” according to its website. Its first location is at 488 Summer St. in Stamford.

The eatery has items like nachos, chimichangas, chilaquiles fajitas, enchiladas and torta mexs on the menu. It also serves Mexican beverages like Jarritos fruit-flavored soda and Mexican coffee made with chocolate and Cinnamon.

“We do authentic Mexican food,” Cantina Mexicana employee Selena Hernandez said, adding that Enchiladas De Mole are the most popular dish.

Cantina Mexicana aims to provide a casual environment and is adored with colorful Mexican-themed art including butterfly sculptures, skull paintings, flowers, dream catchers and portraits of famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. The restaurant also has a sit-down bar near its entrance with a large green-painted skull for a backdrop.

The restaurant is currently looking into bringing mariachi bands to perform, similar to the mariachi nights that its Stamford location hosts every Thursday. 

Cantina Mexicana is open from 11:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, on Friday and Saturday it is open from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. and it is closed on Monday.
