CHESTER, NJ — Craving some authentic Mexican food? There’s a variety of good places to try all around the Morris County area.
But a local restaurant in Chester is one of the best in the entire state, according to a 2023 report by Best of NJ.
According to the report, you have to check out Chester’s Fresco Mexican. Located at 137 Main Street in Chester, this intimate BYOB eatery offers authentic Mexican food with a fresh twist.
Fresco Mexican is a collaboration project between Marco Rojas and Carlos Cervantes. According to the restaurant’s website, Rojas, who is from Guadalajara Mexico, developed his regional style of Mexican cooking in his mother’s kitchen.
With deep Cuban roots, Cervantes is a fourth-generation Key West native. Cervantes previously had a 15-year stint at The Madison Hotel in Morristown as their sales and catering manager.
“In 2006, we opened our first Fresco restaurant in Flanders. In 2010, we moved Fresco Mexican to Chester. Fresco Mexican is an extension of our tight family backgrounds, where food was always the center of our households,” Cervantes and Rojas said.
The popular restaurant serves everything from lunch, dinner and dessert, along with authentic dishes such as chile relleno, carne asada a la plancha, pozole and homemade tamales.
The report cites dishes like “Nachos al Fresco, Bocadillo Platter, or the Queso Fundido con Chorizo,” as some to try.
Clearly, local diners agree that this spot is one of the best. It has a 4.4-star rating on Google with more than 600 reviews.
Fresco Mexican is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
