Emilia Clarke: there are many reasons why love the actress, 36, who we first encountered as the mother of dragons in HBO smash Game of Thrones.

There’s the acting nous (obviously); the joy-bringing smile that lights up her face right to the corners of her eyes; her long-time support of the NHS as an institution – as well as the nurses who work so hard to keep it running.

There’s the candour about her own experience recovering from brain injury; that skin and the way she so often maintains long friendships with her cast mates.

When you think about it, so much of Emilia‘s universal appeal boils down to the fact that she seems like a very decent human who’s also a tonne of fun to hang around with because she doesn’t take herself too seriously.

And that affable attribute was clear to see in Emilia’s latest post to her Instagram grid, where she’s posing alongside her beloved long-haired dachshund outside a pun-tastic Cornish ice cream parlour.

Game of Cones (geddit?) in Fowey, Cornwall is themed around the show that first made Emilia – and co-stars including Sophie Turner – famous.

The actress is mock-grimacing in the phot0 and captioned the post: ‘I checked, there was no Dairy free Daenerys option…😞’/

She then had some fun with some puns of her own, including ‘#bendthekneeckerbockergloryanyone’ and
‘#doyouthinktheyknewiwasmoreafirethanicekindagal’ – both references to her character Daenerys’ role in the series – sure tickle long-time fans of the show.

So, does Emilia Clark really not eat dairy? You know what, we’re not sure. Emilia hasn’t commented on the specifics of her daily diet for a while. In 2016 she bigged up former Bodyism trainer James Duigan for his ‘Clean and Lean’ method.

The Aussie PT says this approach is not a diet but a ‘lifestyle’, which encompasses strengthening (but not punishing) exercise; plenty of whole foods (with an emphasis on vegetables, fish and other lean protein) plus restorative activities. There’s also an emphasis on limiting ‘toxins’ and processed foods.

But, let’s be real, a lot can change in six years, and we can’t know if this the actress is still using Duigan’s protocol to guide her meal and snack choices.

From her Instagram it appears Emilia is a believer that balance is best. We spy salads, bananas, pain aux raisin, margaritas and a big plate of pasta. Which, TBH, is a decent mix of eating for health and eating for enjoyment.

And that mix matters! Because, remember, food is about so much more than numbers and its nutritional values – it’s joy, it’s pleasure and, much like Emilia herself, it’s fun.

We hope Emilia manages to get her hands on some dairy-free ice cream soon.
