Do you know what’s more frightening than Marv from the Wet Bandits taking a piping hot iron to the face or stepping on a rusty, old nail? Inflation. Yep,

inflation has done us far worse than little Kevin McCallister ever could.

In fact, a newly viral video shows just how much the price of groceries has increased since Home Alone was released in 1990. And yes, you should probably brace yourselves.

As a refresher, here’s a quick recap of everything Kevin purchased on his iconic grocery trip: TV dinner, loaf of Wonder Bread, frozen mac & cheese, cling wrap, half gallon of milk, Tide laundry detergent, toilet paper, half gallon of orange juice, dryer sheets, and a pack of army men (you know, “for the kids”).

The total for the modest purchase was $19.83 (with a $1 coupon).

TikTok user @sellitlikelyons broke down what each item that Kevin purchased would cost today, with inflation, before giving a grand total. As a quick heads up, it appears that the Target website is used to price the products.

“What does that come down to? The grand total is $63.73. Add on tax, $5.25. And put that together and you get…68 bucks after your coupon today, guys,” he revealed.

And let’s not even talk about what it wold cost if Kevin had placed his order on Instacart.

Although most people in the comments weren’t incredibly shocked at the steep increase in prices, shots were still fired.

“I bet the cashiers wage is still the same in 2023,” said one person.

“I haaaaaate 2023,” another user added.

It seems that the Wet Bandits may have also entered the conversation.

“I could get that down to $20 at self checkout,” one user mischievously added.
