A new Turkish restaurant and takeaway has opened in Stoke-on-Trent – and it looks amazing. Despite its small appearance on the outside, Master Grill, at 203 High Street, Tunstall, can sit up to 40 diners.
It serves up freshy grilled lamb or chicken shawarma, adana kofte, seabass, salmon and steak, with rice or couscous. It also does pizzas, burgers, southern fried chicken, salads, desserts, milkshakes, and cold starters such as hummus or Turkish yoghurt dish, cacik.
Owner Shadman Mahmood, from Tunstall, said: “It’s a restaurant and takeaway. I have been living here for about 22 years and I always looked around and there’s no Turkish restaurants or cuisine in Stoke-on-Trent. That gave me the opportunity to open a Turkish restaurant here.
“I always try and do something for the people here.”
The restaurant has already received a good response from the community. Shadman added: “We have been very busy.
“Everybody loves the food and have put their pictures up on Facebook. I am really happy with the feedback we have got.”
Shadman was previously a chef from 2007 to 2011. He employs four people at Master Grill, including himself.
He said: “It’s taken us eight months to get ready. We started last year. We have done everything from scratch. It’s all been fully rewired.
“We have built a kitchen and toilets. The idea was to have a different kind of cuisine in Stoke-on-Trent, instead of it being a takeaway, I preferred it to be more of a restaurant.
“So far, it’s doing very well and people are already coming back. It looks small from the outside but, when you come in, it’s a different story.
“We can sit about 40 people and that’s only the upstairs. It doesn’t look that big.”
Master Grill, which is Halal, is open seven days a week, from 11am until 10pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 11am until 11pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
