100 vegetarian meals for hospital’s frontliners

FOR two years, frontliners worked hard to make Penang safe during the Covid-19 pandemic and a group of well-wishers wanted to thank them for their sacrifices.

To mark Labour Day, some 20 members of the group offered 100 packs of vegetarian bee hoon and water bottles to frontliners at Penang Hospital.

Group representative Dr Soon Chuan Yean said the food was a token of appreciation.

“We have been giving aid on a monthly basis to hospitals and welfare homes in Penang since the pandemic started,” he said when met at the hospital.

In 2016, the group of 100 well-wishers started giving free food to needy people during Ramadan and Chinese New Year.

Soon said this latest initiative was supported by donors and they welcome more contributions.

“Now that things are better, we hope to give free food during other festivals as well,” he added.

Penang Hospital infectious diseases physician Datuk Dr Wong Peng Shyan, who received the packs, was grateful for the contribution.

“These gestures are always welcome, especially by doctors and nurses working at the Covid-19 ward as it is difficult for them to go out for meals,” she said.
