Keep reading on for everything you need to know:
How to make the best ham & cheese pinwheels:
These are a true star in our appetizer book because of how easy and customizable they are. All you need to do is roll out your store-bought crescent dough, add your desired fillings, roll up, cut and bake. One thing we don’t recommend skipping is the garlic-poppy seed-butter mixture. It not only adds heaps of buttery, herby flavor, but also makes our pinwheels perfectly golden-brown after baking.
Variations:
The best part of these pinwheels? These can be done with any cheese and deli meat. We throw cheddar into the mix with eggs in our breakfast pinwheels. Wanna try turkey and gouda? Amazing. Roast beef and horseradish cheddar? Sounds incredible, just like our French dip pinwheel. You want a holiday-themed one to impress your guests? We’ve got a Christmas tree pinwheel too. You truly can’t go wrong with this adaptable app.
Make them ahead:
You can make these pinwheels up to two days ahead of time. Prepare completely, then store covered in the refrigerator. When ready to enjoy, brush the garlic-poppy seed mixture over the pinwheels, then bake as directed, keeping in mind that they might take a little bit longer to bake.
Storing pinwheels:
If you manage to have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for around 4 days. We highly recommend reheating in the oven (or air fryer) so the crescent rolls can crisp back up nicely.
Freezing ham & cheese pinwheels:
After baking and letting your pinwheels cool, cover in a freezer-safe container, then place in the freezer for around a month.
