Far too many viral videos show restaurant customers exploding into full-on tantrums over the smallest problems. But thanks to a judge in Parma, Ohio, one irate customer will get the chance to see how it feels to be on the other side of the counter.
Roughly three months ago, 39-year-old Rosemary Hayne went viral on
Reddit for all the wrong reasons: She was videotaped throwing a Chipotle burrito bowl in worker Emily Russell’s face. Prior to tossing the burrito bowl over the counter, Hayne engaged in an expletive-filled tirade aimed at Russell.
Food & Wine reports that on November 28, Judge Timothy Gilligan of Parma Municipal Court gave Hayne the option of working 20 hours per week at a fast food restaurant for two months in exchange for a reduced sentence of 60 days behind bars (it was previously 180 days).
“You didn’t get your burrito bowl the way you like it, and this is how you respond?” Judge Gilligan said. “This is not Real Housewives of Parma. This behavior is not acceptable.”
As for Russell, who now suffers from anxiety and ultimately resigned from her job, she believes that justice was in fact served.
“I just didn’t want her to get a slap on the wrist like anybody else and just walk away from it. She got exactly what she deserved. She’s gonna walk in my shoes,” she told Today. “You know, she’s working 20 hours a week. She’s lucky — I was working 65-hour weeks.”
Following the shocking incident, a GoFundMe was created to provide financial support to Russell. As of December 6, the fundraiser has raised a little over $7,000 (the initial goal was $1,500).
