We love a cold, refreshing
margarita to cool off in the summer months, but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying these classic drinks year round. For this recipe, we wanted to make a marg worthy of toasting when the ball drops this NYE. We added Champagne to our classic margarita for a festive, bubbly touch perfect for ringing in the new year. Skip the French 75 this year—these Champagne margaritas are the New Year’s Eve cocktail you should be toasting to.
The best tequila for these margaritas:
We suggest a silver tequila in this recipe—just like in our classic margaritas. Any blanco or silver tequila will work beautifully in this recipe, but we recommend staying away from any gold tequilas. Unsure of what type of tequila to use? Check out our list of the best tequila brands for sipping and mixing.
The best Champagne to use:
Use your favorite drinking Champagne for these margs—grab a bottle of your favorite brand, or check out our list of the best Champagne brands to use. Looking for other alternatives? Cava or Prosecco would also be great here.
How to make the rim:
We love a salt rim with our margs, but if sugar is more your thing—go for it! Simply swap out the coarse salt for granulated sugar. Or, do both, so everyone has an option for a sweet or salty rim.
Can I make this in advance?
Absolutely! This is a great make-ahead drink for a crowd. If you want to make this in advance, combine all of your ingredients—minus the Champagne—into a pitcher and refrigerate. When you’re ready to serve, divide your margarita mixture into your glasses, then top with Champagne.
