Just when I thought
Ryan Gosling couldn’t get anymore perfect, the man goes and admits he’s got a thing for baking. While chatting with W Magazine, the Barbie star opened up about the baking “gene” his mom passed down.
“I make a hell of a pie,” Gosling revealed to the outlet, much to Margot Robbie’s surprise. “My mom used to bake as a side hustle, and I’ve been lucky enough to get the pie gene.”
Gosling is hardly an amateur, either. In fact, the A-lister opened up about his go-to pie (raspberry) and technique. “I flute my crust too, so don’t let anyone tell you that I don’t!” he said. “It’s where you thumb the edges and you make like a nice little, almost like a braid.”
Gosling’s co-star Margot Robbie was shocked at the admission and chimed in to say she was “hurt” Gosling had never made her a pie, but that “pie gene” isn’t a total secret. Eva Mendes has previously opened up about her husband’s kitchen skills.
“Ryan is an amazing chef AND baker,” she wrote on Instagram back in 2020. “For real. Incredible. No joke.” As for her own cooking abilities, Mendes admitted she was “not sure” if what she does can technically be considered “cooking.” “It’s more like steaming veggies and juicing and making rice. [Ryan] really cooks. I survive,” she laughed.
In 2022, the actress opened up further about their separate roles in the kitchen. “Ryan’s the cook. He’s an incredible cook,” she told PEOPLE. “I think that there’s a nice balance to ‘you cook, I clean.’ And it just works for us.”
She went on to call herself a “control freak about the skin” and admitted that doing dishes is “meditative.”
“Life is so chaotic. But the one thing I can control is my house, my kitchen,” Mendes said. “It really goes deeper than just cleaning up. It really gives me clarity. Clean sink equals clear mind for me.”
