When it comes to
hot party dips, two reign supreme in our book: spinach and artichoke dip and hot crab dip. We love both so much that we decided: why not combine them? In this recipe, we upgrade the classic spinach and artichoke dip by adding rich and flavorful crab. While it may be extremely decadent, this cheesy crab dip is surprisingly easy to make. It comes together in just 35 minutes, and the biggest chunk of time is dedicated to the skillet baking while you relax.
Make this dip for your next Super Bowl watch party for an easy appetizer you can throw together in no time at all, but will disappear in minutes. Here’s everything you need to know:
The best crab to use for crab artichoke dip:
While you usually might want to go for fresh crab, in this case you want to avoid the fancy stuff. For this recipe (just like in our other crab dips), we recommend buying canned lump crab in the seafood section of the supermarket. If you’re in a pinch, claw or backfin meat will work as well.
Whatever kind you end up using, be sure to drain it well to keep the mix from becoming too watery. Canned crab can also contain small pieces and bits of shell that don’t break down and make for an unwanted added texture. Gently pick through the crab with your fingers to feel for any shell pieces, being careful not to break up the lumps too much.
What to dip in crab artichoke dip:
We love dunking garlicky crostini in this creamy dip, especially since they’re so easy to prepare and ready in 10 minutes. If that’s not your thing—no worries! Practically any toasted bread or plain crackers will pair perfectly with this dip. Or, serve a tray of veggies with your dip for a fresh, crunchy option to break up the beige.
Serving ideas:
What doesn’t go with this crowd-pleaser? If you’re a dip fanatic like us, serve this alongside our jalapeño popper dip or caramelized onion dip for double the fun. Add a charcuterie board, some cheesy garlic bread and a plate full of fresh, refreshing veggies and you’ve got a complete party spread.
