Basil-infused vodka? Sign us up! Steeping basil in alcohol overnight brings out the sweetness of the herb and turns the spirit a vibrant green. Add lemonade (homemade or store-bought) and seltzer, and you’ve got a springy, fresh cocktail you’ll want to sip on all day long.
To take this drink over the top, we also made a basil-infused sugar to decorate the rim of our glasses. We used a small food processor, but you could also chop your basil by hand. Just make sure to get it as fine as you possibly can before mixing it thoroughly into your sugar. You can also keep things simpler and garnish your glasses with just a lemon wedge and a fresh basil leaf if you like.
Want to switch things up? Try infusing another spirit like gin or tequila with basil, or swapping out the basil for another fresh herb like rosemary or thyme. The fun doesn’t stop with this recipe, either. Once you start infusing, you won’t want to stop. Check out the rest of our spring and summer cocktails, then have fun mixing and matching your homemade infusions into them.
