A shiny glazed honey
ham is a must for many holiday celebrations (we’re looking at you, Easter dinner). But when you simply don’t have the oven space, heating your spiral ham in an Instant Pot is a total time- and space-saver. This one-pot recipe is mostly hands-off, and yields a centerpiece-worthy ham glazed in a sweet homemade honey-mustard sauce that soaks into every nook and cranny for maximum flavor. Here’s everything you need to know to make a killer ham in your Instant Pot:
The marinade:
Though spiral hams come fully cooked from the grocery store, they’re best served warm. Since you have to heat your ham, why not add extra flavor as it cooks with a simple sauce? This Instant Pot ham gets its sweet and gently spiced flavor from a quick three-ingredient sauce made with orange juice, honey, and spicy brown mustard.
Use bottled or fresh orange juice for your glaze. In a pinch, fresh grapefruit juice will also work well. The citrus flavors add a pop of brightness and acidity to this rich holiday meal. Though spicy brown mustard will add just a touch of heat to your ham, if you’d rather double down on spice, try using hot honey for your glaze. On the other hand, to keep this dish totally spice-free, regular Dijon mustard will work just fine. Looking for a different glaze? How to cook ham in the Instant Pot:
You’ll need at least a 6-quart Instant Pot to cook a whole spiral ham, but a larger pot will work for a larger ham. If necessary, you can trim off some of the meat to ensure that the Instant Pot lid closes securely. Just place the trimmings alongside the whole bone-in ham in the pressure cooking pot. You’ll cook your ham with the sauce on high pressure for 12 minutes, then turn off the pressure cooker and let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes. Finish with a quick pressure release, finish up your sauce, pour, and serve!
Serving ideas:
Serve this stunning ham alongside blistered sugar snap peas, fluffy potato rolls, and crispy smashed potatoes for a meal worth celebrating. Don’t worry about leftovers, they freeze great for future ham and cheese sandwiches (or in any of our favorite leftover ham recipes).
